Back in the mid 60's I took a course at Cornell University called "Economics of Business."

Out of that course, I have distilled the very raw, basic principles of starting and running a successful business, regardless of what type of business it is.

Although originally designed for normal brick and mortar businesses back in the 60's, the principles still apply today to the Internet business.

There are three basic requirements for starting a legitimate business. Although they may at first seem elementary, and almost over simplified, you will see their value as we proceed.

1.) You must have a legitimate product or service.

2.) There must be a NEED for that product or service.

3.) You must have an effective marketing plan.

Without all three of these being present, you do not have a legitimate business.

There are only two reasons any business will fail, or ever has failed.

1.) It is under managed.

2.) It is under capitalized.

Regardless of all the reasons people state that their business failed, it can always be distilled to one of those two reasons.

Under managed covers a vast array of things.

* If the market changes and the business plan does not change with it, the business is
   under managed.

* If the technology upgrades and the business process doesn't ugrade with it, the business is
   under managed.

* If the marketing strategy isn't working and isn't restructured, the business is under
   managed.

* If potential risk is not offset with guaranteed income, the business is under managed.

Here is an example. During the 80's and part of the 90's I was heavily involved in the Direct Mail business. Yes, I was one of those responsible for sending some of that "junk mail" to your mailbox. With a small staff, I was mailing out around 50,000 letters and postcards every month.

Over time, the cost of lists increased nearly out of reach, the response rate declined due to over use, the printing cost rose sharply and the cost of postage rose three times. It was at a point where it was more and more difficult to make a profit.

The market was changing and my business plan had to change with it. Technology was upgrading and my business process had to upgrade with it. Marketing systems were becoming too expensive and inefficient and had to be restructured.

Enter the Internet and Email!

Now, I can send one million letters with the click of the mouse, and at virtually NO COST! No labor cost, no printing cost, no postage cost, and I can deliver my emails around the world as easily as I can deliver them to my next door neighbor. I still have to rent my list to email to, but even that is less than the lists I rented using Direct Mail.

You can see why I love the Internet when it comes to marketing.

Under Capitalized.

In the late 60's I was the managing partner of a fast food restaurant. It took over nine months to begin making a profit, and three years to get the business paid for. During the first nine months, I was robbed, one of my trusted employees was stealing product out the back door and my night cashier was taking money out the front door. That required a lot of capital to sustain.

Being under capitalized would have meant certain failure.

Today, with the Internet and business opportunities available, a person can be in profit and paid for within the first 30 days. What a difference! No large capitalization required.

Advertising.

If you decide to join one of the online business opportunities that I have listed below, you WILL need some advertising dollars available. You should have anywhere from $200 to $300 to invest, either cash or credit, in getting your business into the public arena.

You can start with as little as $200 and then reinvest part of your income back into advertising until you are at a level of about $500 a month.

At that level, you can begin building a successful online business. The larger your advertising budget the greater your reach. As it continues to get larger the income grows exponentially.

If you have read or heard about those Internet Gurus who earn millions of dollars annually on the Internet, and there are plenty who do, I can tell you for a fact that they spend upwards of $10,000 a month on advertising.

It's simply a cause and effect relationship. Advertising is the cause, and income is the effect. The greater the cause, the greater the effect. It's just that simple. An effective marketing plan will provide for this.

It's just STAGGERING!

There is absolutely NO REASON why You cannot tap into this enormous stream of wealth. If you do not tap into that enormous stream of wealth, tens of thousands of others will and you will always wonder "what if?"
